Welcome

Welcome to my very first blog post, and a big thank you for finding your way here!

My goal is to chat about holistic health, spill the tea on my favorite products, dive into my personal health and nutrition journey (hello perimenopause), and whatever else might catch your eye. I'll do my best to keep the updates flowing, but let's be real—life throws curveballs sometimes.

Let's kick things off with a quick intro to my nutrition journey. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, I made the move to Queensland at 15, and that's where I'm currently residing.

Growing up in the '80s and '90s, my family was all about home-cooked meals courtesy of my mother. Takeout or dining out was a rare treat, and with five kids, it was a pricey affair for my parents, especially on a single income. How they managed during the early '90s with interest rates hitting 17.5%, I'll never comprehend.

Cooking skills were passed down through generations in my family – my grandmother taught my mother, who then passed it on to my siblings and me during our teenage years. While I appreciate this skill now, back then, I saw food as a mere necessity for survival.

Fond memories include school holiday stays at my maternal grandparents' place. Mornings consisted of toasting bread on their woodfired stove, and they were still getting milk delivered in glass bottles. My grandmother cultivated their veggies and prepared all their meals from scratch, including an array of baked goods, jams, chutneys, sauces, and deliciously cooked meals with meat, veggies, and salads.

My grandmother and mother often drew inspiration from Women's Weekly cookbooks, a tradition I carried on. Although I enjoyed cooking, deciding what's for dinner daily sometimes felt like a chore. There's nothing wrong, in my opinion, with opting for a simple egg on toast for dinner – quick and easy.

Fast forward to my 30s, and my approach to cooking and food choices underwent a seismic shift when I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I'll save the details of that story for another blog post.

If you've stuck around till now, a heartfelt thank you! I hope you continue to find enjoyment in future blog posts as they roll out..

Dee xx
